Keynote Speakers:

We are delighted to announce that the keynote speakers for EARL 2015 will be Alex Bellos, Joe Cheng, Dirk Eddelbuettel. and Hannah Fry

 

Keynote

Alex Bellos is an author and broadcaster. His popular mathematics books Alex's Adventures in Numberland and Alex Through the Looking-Glass are both bestsellers and have been translated into more than 20 languages. He also writes a maths blog for the Guardian and presents science documentaries for Radio 4. Before moving into science writing he was the South America correspondent for the Guardian. He is the author of Futebol: The Brazilian Way of Life and ghost-wrote Pelé's autobiography.

 

 

Joe Cheng is a software engineer who joined J.J. Allaire at RStudio in 2009 to help create the RStudio integrated development environment. He is best known for creating Shiny, the reactive web application framework for R; and RPubs, a well known document publishing service. Joe has spent most of his career working for Boston-area tech startups, plus a stint at Microsoft prior to joining RStudio.

 
Dirk Eddelbuettel is the author / maintainer of Rcpp, RQuantLib, digest and two dozen more CRAN packages. He is a (voting) member of the R Foundation, maintains the CRAN Task Views for Finance as well as High-Performance Computing, contributes to Debian as a package maintainer, and serves as an editor for the Journal of Statistical Software. He has a PhD in Econometrics from EHESS, and works in Chicago as quantitative analyst focussed on
predictive models for financial markets.

 

 
Hannah Fry is a lecturer in the mathematics at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA). She has a broad portfolio of public engagement activities including schools outreach, podcasting, academic stand-up, cafe scientifique and public lectures. Her TEDx talk at the inaugural TEDxUCL was featured on the front page of TED.com and currently has around half a million views across all TED channels.
